\nThe electric era is here. With the increasing number of electric cars on the road, the need for evenly distributed, efficient and user-friendly charging stations is more pressing than ever. In this context, transflective displays<\/strong> emerge as an ideal technological solution for electric vehicle charging stations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Transflective displays, thanks to their ability to reflect ambient light, offer excellent readability even in intense light conditions<\/strong>, a fundamental aspect for outdoor charging stations. Display readability is, in fact, an essential aspect for enabling the charging process to run correctly<\/strong>, as well as opening up new ways of delivering outdoor advertising<\/strong> (DOOH – Digital Out Of Home). Furthermore, transflective displays consume less<\/strong> energy than other types of displays, a significant advantage considering the importance of energy efficiency in the e-mobility sector.<\/p>\n

In this article we will explore in detail why transflective displays are an ideal technological choice for electric charging stations, analyzing their advantages<\/strong> in terms of readability, energy savings and durability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Transflective Displays: what are they?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Displays with Transflective technology are designed to offer good readability in intense ambient light conditions, including direct sunlight<\/strong>.
\nThe display, equipped with a partially transparent reflective polarizer positioned in front of the backlight, ensures that all incoming ambient light<\/strong> is reflected and used to illuminate the screen<\/strong>. Transflective displays, in fact, benefit from bright ambient light, which is able to ensure content visibility even without backlighting.
\nA normal Transmissive display (TN) needs a very bright backlight to offer good readability in sunlight, and to do so it consumes much more energy. A Transflective panel, on the other hand, will have reduced power consumption<\/strong>, as well as significantly lower heat generation.
\nTransflective displays feature a TFT display panel to show content that is clearly visible in almost all ambient light conditions, making them a highly energy-efficient solution.<\/p>\n

The Transflective TFT<\/strong><\/h5>\n

\nTransflective TFTs have both “Transmissive” and “Reflective” modes<\/strong>, which work together for higher performance. As a result, images displayed on a Transflective display in very intense light conditions are perfect even without the backlighting present on a Transmissive TFT display. Customers using a Transflective TFT display can thus save energy by reducing or disabling the display’s backlight in bright environments.<\/p>\n

Sunlight-readable TFT displays can be of the color Transflective<\/strong> type or the high-brightness<\/strong> type (Transmissive or TN display), both visible in sunlight conditions. But which sunlight-visible TFT display is best suited for your application? Let’s compare the two technologies.<\/p>\n

The Transflective TFT screen is becoming increasingly popular, as displays capable of working in all lighting conditions are being requested more and more frequently: in daylight<\/strong>, or in bright environments, the “Reflective” mode<\/strong> of the display prevails through reflection off the internal glass structure; in darker environments<\/strong>, however, “Transmissive” mode<\/strong> dominates, with emissions coming from the display’s backlight. In fact, while Transmissive displays can only be used with backlighting, the Transflective screen has a reflector on the TFT cell’s colored Polarizer Filter, so incoming ambient light is reflected off the reflective layer and used to illuminate the display. As a result, content readability in very intense sunlight conditions is perfect even without backlighting. As seen earlier, customers using a Transflective screen in bright environments can save energy by reducing or turning off the display’s backlight because “Reflective” mode is dominant.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the high-brightness display will offer excellent readability in direct sunlight, provided it also has a high contrast value and can support high power consumption due to backlight usage. In addition, there is also the ability to dissipate the heat generated by the backlight and prevent premature decay of LED lifespan under prolonged use at maximum performance.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, both solutions can prove to be \u201cwinning\u201d when direct-sunlight visibility is required but, depending on the applications, energy requirements and product placement, the Transflective solution could turn out to be more suitable, as it is more versatile<\/strong> and more functional in guaranteeing an adequate user experience and\/or delivering advertising\/ads on the displays even in full sunlight.<\/p>\n
