IMD-3000: the smart touchless alternative to pushbutton switches: greater Safety and Hygiene
CONSYSTEM S.r.l. announces the availability for the Italian market of the latest technological innovation from InnosenT: the IMD-3000 RADAR system, the reliable and modern touchless alternative to pushbutton switches.
The abbreviation IMD stands for ‘InnoSenT Motion Detector’ and hints at the product’s function: to be a motion detector, but an unconventional one.
The IMD-3000 was in fact designed as a touchless proximity switch (with a range of 10 cm) to replace conventional mechanical switches/pushbuttons.
The RADAR (Radio Detection And Ranging) system is optimized to detect “significant” hand movements in front of the sensor, converting the RADAR signal into a digital trigger for an open collector thanks to its intelligent processor.
Moreover, its compact design (Plug & Play) allows customers to integrate it easily even into an existing infrastructure, making it possible to quickly control and modernize the switches of various applications in a touchless way (e.g. ticket machines, doors, dispensers, lights and other devices).
The IMD-3000 is therefore the first Plug & Play RADAR system for touchless control applications.
TOUCHLESS OPERATING PRINCIPLE AND TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
The IMD-3000’s touchless operating principle is based on the electromagnetic microwaves emitted by the system’s RADAR antenna. If they hit an object, it reflects the signal. The reflected wave is received and evaluated by the sensor.
The system is in fact equipped with intelligent signal processing, capable of detecting only hand movements made within range that are actually “significant”, avoiding accidental activations/switching (normally caused by the presence of passers-by, vehicles or static objects).
IMD-3000 RADAR: THE ADVANTAGES
1) OPERATION IN “HARSH” ENVIRONMENTS
Compared to other contactless technologies such as PIR (Passive InfraRed) sensors, the RADAR system guarantees an important advantage: the contactless physical measurement function is reliable and consistent even in complex environmental conditions.
InnoSenT’s RADAR systems also operate in adverse environmental conditions (such as rain, wind, fog, snow, dust, particulate matter and dirt), without any variation in detection, ensuring the system’s functionality even in “critical” situations.
2) GREATER HYGIENIC SAFETY
The tragic spread of COVID-19 has created greater awareness of the spread of pathogens and their means of transmission. Diseases can also be transmitted through exposed and shared contact surfaces. Just think of the switches/buttons used in public, crowded or transit places (e.g. vending machines, elevators, toilet flush devices, towel or disinfectant dispensers, train doors and bottle vending machines).
The use of touchless technology can bring significant advantages in these cases and in areas with strict hygiene requirements (clean rooms, operating rooms and medical facilities), avoiding inappropriate contact.
3) PLUG & PLAY RADAR SYSTEM: FOR QUICK INTEGRATION AND “TOUCHLESS UPGRADE”
Thanks to its practical design, the radar system can be installed/integrated almost anywhere a conventional switch or touchpad is in use.
Indeed, given its compact size (it has a height of 7 mm), the IMD-3000 RADAR system can be easily positioned/installed behind covers, housings or common switches, without compromising the design of the existing product. With foam adhesive tape on the antenna side, the IMD-3000 can be quickly attached to various surfaces.
Furthermore, to facilitate integration, the IMD-3000 can also be connected using a standard industry JST connector; in addition to being compatible as a system with a wide range of input voltages (4-30 V), ensuring greater integration flexibility with different devices.
The system can also be quickly configured on-site. Indeed, a built-in potentiometer allows the system’s response time to be easily adjusted.
Customers are free to combine the RADAR system and its output with other technologies, software or products, such as customer-specific apps. Ultimately, the IMD-3000 enables quick and efficient integration of touchless functionality into multiple devices and systems.
