IMD-2000: 24GHz Radar Motion Detection

The latest innovation from InnoSent, the German leader in the Radar sector, is now available on the market: the IMD-2000 Radar sensor.

The abbreviation IMD stands for “InnoSenT Motion Detector” and hints at the product’s function: to be a motion detector, but an unconventional one, thanks to new technological developments.

The IMD-2000 is an FSK (Frequency-Shift Keying) Radar sensor with an integrated intelligent μC pre-processing unit, operating in the 24 GHz ISM band. It detects moving vehicles (up to 50m) and moving people (up to 30m), separates them based on speed and measures the speed, distance and direction of the targets. It also allows detections to be filtered based on the distance between the object and the radar antenna. The detection field can therefore be customized to suit the application, and the distance information can be used to trigger functions based on the object’s position.

With a speed detection range from 0.23km/h to 28km/h and a versatile field of view of 48° (vertical) x 98° (horizontal), it is the ideal solution for touchless control applications in various sectors: security, automation, home appliances, smart home and construction.

Some application examples include: anti-intrusion and perimeter control systems, light on/off switching, door openers, healthcare-hygiene applications (faucet activation, operating room door opening).

The IMD-2000 can be installed easily and configured quickly, without the need for specific Radar expertise, thanks to the software evaluation kit’s GUI (Graphical User Interface) for system configuration, plug-and-play capability and the integrated internal signal configuration unit, which analyzes the Radar data (thanks to the intelligent μC pre-processing unit).
The IMD-2000 offers very effective application performance, such as individual configuration of the detection field (the range can be adjusted via the GUI software), signal intensity and speed range.

The product also provides additional data such as ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) and Radar signal intensity, communicating this information in the form of a target list via a UART interface (Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter).

The IMD-2000’s small, compact size (25 x 20 x 12 mm) makes it easy to implement in existing products, covers or housings, even with limited space

• OPERATION IN HARSH ENVIRONMENTS/ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS WHILE RESPECTING PRIVACY

The IMD-2000 Radar sensor has a wide operating temperature range of -30°C to +80°C. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, it guarantees full operation in adverse weather conditions (poor visibility, rain, fog) and can therefore make up for any shortcomings in video surveillance systems.
Furthermore, the Radar sensor fully respects privacy thanks to anonymous monitoring.
