High-performance DC EMC/EMI filters for charging stations by Astrodyne TDI

High-performance DC EMC/EMI filters for charging stations

Hackettstown, NJ – To continue supporting the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Astrodyne TDI – a global company that develops and manufactures Power Conversion solutions and EMI/EMC filters – has launched a new range of high-performance EMI/EMC filters for DC fast and ultra-fast EV chargers.EMI filters

The new RP695H series of DC EMI filters combines high performance with compact dimensions and was designed to reduce both costs and time-to-market for DC charger manufacturers.

With the growing spread of electric vehicles (EVs), the need for ever-faster charging options is increasing. For this reason, demand for ultra-fast direct current (DC) charging stations has skyrocketed, and charger manufacturers are working on new high-power designs to meet the growing demand. The need for higher power, shorter development times and compact solutions has also made the certification process much more challenging, especially with regard to radiated emissions. Noise generated on the DC side of the EV charger is the main cause of radiated emissions test failures. Hence the need to develop DC filters that can handle higher currents and voltages, with high performance in a compact size.

Astrodyne TDI’s RP695H series is a two-stage, high-performance DC EMI/EMC filter that operates up to 1500 VDC. The design is engineered to achieve the best trade-off between performance, cost and weight. These characteristics are essential for ultra-fast charging stations, where space and weight are key features. RP695H filters are available with rated currents of 450 A, 600 A, 1000 A and 1600 A and selectable Y-capacitor values from 0 to 2000nF. Last but not least, Astrodyne TDI provides an on-site pre-compliance testing service to minimize unexpected costs and time-to-market.
