IDR-2050 radar level measurement. For contactless and anti-collision level measurement.

Radar Level Measurement: IDR-2050. For contactless and anti-collision level measurement.

Radar as an alternative to ultrasonic sensors for continuous level measurement.

Radar is a key technology for determining distances, especially in the field of fill-level measurement, where continuous and precise measurement is required in difficult and complex environments (e.g. silos, aqueducts, pipelines, water tanks, etc.).

The new IDR-2050 radar from InnoSenT, the latest development for level measurement, meets these needs with excellent performance and an excellent price-quality ratio, also for use as a radar level sensor.

With the IDR-2050, InnoSenT expands its portfolio in the 60 GHz range. In addition to the iSYS-6030 long-range radar system, InnoSenT now also offers a high-precision alternative for close-range distance measurement (10m).

Radar for precise short-range measurement (10m)

The IDR-2050 is a 60 GHz FMCW radar sensor for distance measurement, with a range of 10 m. All with millimeter precision (±5 mm).
InnoSent achieved this incredible technological result thanks to a combination of several factors: a special design for the sensor and antenna, innovative DSP algorithms together with advanced calibration technology.

The IDR-2050 has a 6°x6° angle that gives the sensor a specific focus, detecting moving and stationary objects within the covered area.

This allows distances to be determined in a targeted way, even inside silos or closed critical environments without suffering interference (e.g. from reflective walls, installed mixers or other disruptive factors present inside a container). A significant technological advantage.

The IDR-2050 is therefore a state-of-the-art level measurement sensor. But not only that.

60GHz FMCW radar for distance, speed and direction measurement

The 60GHz IDR-2050 radar sensor is an FMCW radar (Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave radar) and measures distance and speed and detects direction of movement. The product also determines the signal strength of detected targets.

It can be used in various contexts and applications thanks to multiple filter settings and ease of installation and integration into existing systems.

Custom filter and configuration options and three operating modes

InnoSenT offers customers various filter and configuration options for individual settings (for example the range). Once “defined”, filters are used to ignore “non-significant” detections and to refine the transmission of information.

Furthermore, the IDR-2050 has three different operating modes that have proven suitable for the various distance measurement application areas: a measurement mode for fast movement with high-speed resolution, a normal mode and a mode with longer measurement times. InnoSenT has also integrated an energy-saving function.

An outstanding, compact design for easy installation and integration.

The IDR-2050 radar sensor is extremely compact with small dimensions (43.5×43.5×27.3mm). This allows the product to be installed in standardized housings with little space. The optimized, flat shape of the RADAR fits perfectly with the typical designs of fill-level measurement systems, making integration and installation easier. The integrated signal processing and the graphical interface provided by InnoSenT make product commissioning easier and minimize the development work needed to integrate the sensor.

The IDR-2050 has a UART interface, which it uses to output a target list. Through an EVAL kit, the sensor can be connected directly to a PC with an FTDI cable for initial configuration.

Radar sensor applications: fill-level measurement sensor, anti-collision sensor, touchless proximity sensor.

Thanks to its features, the 60 GHz IDR-2050 radar can be used in multiple modes, contexts and applications. Its short range makes the IDR-2050 an ideal radar level meter / distance measurement device in small silos, cisterns or tanks. The sensor reliably detects a wide range of materials, from liquids to solids (even dust from finely ground products or granular substances, and foams do not cause measurement problems). Furthermore, extreme environmental conditions such as heat or cold, dirt, steam or darkness do not hinder the performance of the radar equipment.
In addition to fill-level detection, the sensor can also be used to prevent collisions. In this use case, the IDR-2050 transmits distance warnings, continuously monitoring the distance of moving or stationary objects. For example, if the radar is mounted on a vehicle, it can help avoid collisions between forklifts and people or objects.
The low price of this high-performance radar makes this new product a serious competitor to ultrasonic sensors in these areas.

With the IDR-2050, InnoSenT offers a new radar solution for cost-effective applications in the field of fill-level measurement, with all the advantages of radar technology (such as maintenance-free operation, ease of installation, and operation even in difficult/adverse weather conditions”) ensuring accurate and complete data acquisition.

Furthermore, the IDR-2050 radar is approved for use in Europe and the United States in compliance with ETSI and FCC requirements.

Where to find it

The IDR-2050 is distributed in Italy by CONSYSTEM S.r.l., which, thanks to its twenty-year partnership with InnoSenT and the technical expertise of its specialists, is able to support customers from choosing the right RADAR through to design-in and after-sales support.
